AN Easter Ross church is throwing open its doors tomorrow for "a day filled with love and light".

Ardross Ark's day of activities celebrates the third advent Sunday and is set to include music, light and words.

Ardross Church was built by Dyson Perrins of Ardross Castle as a thanksgiving for the recovery of his wife from a serious illness.

A Deed of Declaration of Trust was presented at Edinburgh on August 1, 1899 and the foundation stone was laid by Mrs Perrins on August 17 of the same year.

The building – now known as Ardross Ark – is throwing the doors open on Sunday for a day which aims to celebrate community spirit.

If the building looks familiar, it may be because you have seen it featured in the BBC reality TV hit, The Traitors, filmed at Ardross Castle.

Features of the building include a stunning large orbicular stained glass window and windows dedicated to Saint Andrew and Saint Columba. On the rear wall is a poignant reminder of the sacrifice made by many Highland communities in the Great War of 1914-1918.

The doors open at 11am with a chance to explore the decorations and soak in the festive atmosphere and festive music.

Throughout the day there's a chance to indulge in hot chocolate, mulled wine, home-baked treats and mince pies.

From noon there's a local authors book reading, including Beth A Jordan and Claire Walsh.

At 5pm a concert with Elizabeth Reah is planned.

The community group posted: "Bring your friends and family for a day of celebration and community spirit, stay as long or as little as you like.

"Let's come together to embrace the holiday season and create lasting memories. See you at Ardross Ark!"

If you have an upcoming community event in Ross-shire, get in touch. We may be able to include it in our weekly round-up.
