Festive carolling

Get into the festive spirit with a carolling sing-along at the Royal Hotel’s bar on Shore Street, Ullapool.

The event will feature singing from none other than Johnny Cash and Friends, as well as a telling of the Christmas story, followed by even more singing.

Everyone is welcome to the event, with light festive nibbles on offer too.

The carolling will take place on Saturday, December 23 starting at 7pm.

Peat & Diesel’s pop-up shop

Visit the Stornoway folk-rock band Peat and Diesel’s festive merchandise pop-up shop on Ullapool’s Shore Street.

Peat and Diesel’s shop has taken residency in the old Parlett’s Newsagents in Ullapool, which closed in August 2022 due to the impact of the cost of living crisis.

Band members Calum “Boydie” MacLeod, Innes Scott and Uilly Macleod, were even rumoured to have made a surprise visit to the shop to help serve the peatlemaniacs of Wester Ross on December 3.

A wide range of merchandise is featured at the shop, including: knitted hats, boiler suits, underwear, and baby onesies.

Fans will be able to pick up their merchandise from the shop on Shore Street until early January.

Kessock RNLI singalong

RNLI Christmas Singalong event aims to delight North Kessock

A Christmas Singalong will help to raise funds for a lifesaving RNLI crew later this month.

The RNLI Christmas Singalong will take place in North Kessock Village Hall on Friday, December 15 from 7pm to 8.30pm. Doors open at 6.30pm.

“An evening of festive fun for the whole family - an unmissable performance by the crew of the North Kessock RNLI,” said a spokesperson for the RNLI.

Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for children under 12.

Tickets can be purchased from the RNLI website, or by visiting their EventBrite page.

Tickets include refreshments and mince pies.

All proceeds go towards the RNLI.

Gairloch Christmas market

Pick up your last minute Christmas gifts at this Wester Ross market.

On Saturday December 16, the Gairloch Community Hall are holding a Christmas Market with a wide range of food and activities on offer throughout the day.

The event will feature a visit from none other than Santa Claus, where receiving a gift and having a chat with Father Christmas costs £2.

Gifts, food, decorations and crafts are also said to be on offer at the market.

Refreshments will be provided by Gairloch Community Hall, as well as bacon rolls, soup and home baking up for grabs on the day.

The Christmas Market will be taking place from 10am-4pm.

Community ceilidh

The Gairloch community hall is hosting a community ceilidh with local musicians that is anticipated to be a great night, just a few days before Christmas.

Alastair ‘Buckets’ MacDonald is a local man who plays with the popular trad band, Rhuvaal. But he is coming home with a few of his friends from the band to put on a great ceilidh for the community on December 22.

There will also be a liscenced bar at the event taking place from 7.30pm ‘til late.

Tickets £10 for adults and young adults, and £5 for children who must be accompanied by an adult. The tickets are available on the door, or online on: www.ticketsource.co.uk

Staggies target return to winning ways

Ross County meanwhile will be looking to get back to winning ways when Dundee come calling to Dingwall. The match at the Global Energy Stadium kicks off on Saturday at 3pm. Read our preview interview here.
