Tarradale Archaeological Team - the successor to Tarradale Through Time - is reopening a trench on the shell midden site at Tarradale that was first excavated in 2017 but was not completed.

Important antler artefacts dating from c4000 BCE were found in 2017 and the current excavation will explore these contexts further.

8000 years of history in focus at Tarradale

An open day will be held on Friday, October 6 from 10am to 4pm and visitors are welcome between these times.

The excavation is accessed through the grounds at Tarradale House, Muir of Ord, IV6 7RS.

A minor road leads to Tarradale House on the south side of the A832, one mile east of Muir of Ord heading towards Tore. There is a sign for Tarradale House at the end of the minor road but it faces west towards Muir of Ord and cannot easily be seen coming from the east.

The village is planning a big open picnic on Saturday ‘to celebrate our beautiful community park’.

There will be bike fun and games in the newly completed cycle zone; a nature quiz for children; a 100 square raffle with some great prizes for kids and adults; a guided nature talk and trail looking for mini beasts.

It’s scheduled to take place between 3pm and 6pm and is part of the Highlands and Islands Climate Festival. There’s plans for a singsong around the fire pit to round things off.

A new community shop opens on Saturday at the old Victorian Station in Strathpeffer.

Station Trading will celebrate its official opening as “ a shop with a conscience”, offering a mixture of ethically sourced, environmentally friendly, organic and fair trade food, household and craft products. A refill service of regular household cleaning products eliminates plastic waste and keeps prices down.

The shop provides local artists and craftspeople an outlet for their products

and the team hopes to be able to run free workshops on low impact (and cost) living in these climate-conscious times. The opening is scheduled between 11am and 2pm.
