Kyle Turner insists Ross County will be in a positive mood going into their Premiership match against Hearts this weekend – despite seeing their dream of a Hampden semi final dashed.

A 2-1 defeat against Aberdeen saw the Staggies exit the League Cup at the quarter final stage.

However, given the circumstances – a red card to Jack Baldwin very early in the game – spirits were high in the County changing room after making it a competitive cup tie.

Now, ahead of Hearts’ own visit to Dingwall tomorrow, Turner is hoping for that positivity to carry into three points against a side who will be expecting to challenge for continental football next season.

“The boys showed great character all game after going down to 10 men and hanging in there,” Turner said after the full time whistle on Wednesday evening.

“We managed to get one back, and with another five minutes you never know what might have happened.

“I think after we scored the penalty we thought we might as well go for it, we had nothing to lose. We can be proud of the way we performed, it was really good.

“There are a lot of positives, we spoke about that in the changing room – we just needed one wee break, and unfortunately we never got it.

“We know it’s going to be another tough game against Hearts, they are a good side in the league but we are positive.

“Up here in Dingwall we perform really well, and hopefully we can make it a tough game for them. If we can get a big win, that can push us into the top six and we’re aspiring to get as high as we can.”

Facing opponents like Aberdeen and Hearts on a regular basis was a big part of why Turner made the move to Dingwall.

He was stepping up to the top flight for the first time in his career, but the 25-year-old has hit the ground running with Ross County, and already has three goals to his name in all competitions.

“It’s been good – tough, but I expected that,” Turner said of his time in the Premiership so far.

“I’ve settled in well, and I’m just trying to chip in with some goals and assists.

“That was my third goal so far this season (against Aberdeen), so I’m just trying to build on my own targets and we’ll see how it goes.

“The team is gelling well together. You see that on the pitch, and we saw it again against Aberdeen, so long may it continue.

“I’ve played with Connor Randall for a few games, and one will sit and one will hit the box, but I’ve played higher up too. It is really fluid.”
