SEVERAL schools in Wester Ross and Sutherland flagged closures this morning as deteriorating weather created treacherous conditions on some roads.

Poolewe Primary was amongst them and got creative when sharing the news on social media.

It used a simple picture to tell the story, promising to keep parents, carers and pupils posted via the school Facebook page and Highland Council website as well as phone and email.

It posted: "In the meantime, keep warm and safe."

It was far from the only school affected with the primary and secondary in Gairloch also hit by a lack of school transport because of severe conditions on the roads. Prelims that had been due to be held today will be rearranged.

This afternoon it posted: "Our plan tomorrowis that the school will open an hour later at 9.30am.

"Registration will run from 9.30-9.35am after which pupils will go straight to period 2 classes, or their prelim if they have one scheduled to start at 9.40am.

"This applies to local pupils and those who take school transport. Those who travel on school transport should be at their pick-up point one hour after the usual time.

"This is our plan - but please do check in the morning as we will have to update if road conditions or the weather make things more difficult."
