UPDATE: School closures affect hundreds of Highland pupils as weather takes its toll on the roads

HUNDREDS of pupils at nurseries, primaries and secondary schools in the Highlands are getting an extra day of school today because of snow and treacherous road conditions.

Gairloch High School was one of the first to flag difficult conditions this morning with the school partially closed due to a lack of school transport, affected by severe road conditions.

In Wester Ross, Bualnaluib primary is also closed due to bad weather as is Poolewe.

Gairloch High said prelims due to have been staged today will be rearranged.
