AN author whose book based in Ross-shire has been a big hit locally is making an appearance at an award-winning museum this afternoon.

Gairloch Museum will host a visit by John McLellan, author of The Faultline.

The debut novel was a bestseller at Ullapool Bookshop last year.

Essentially a coming-of-age story, the novel is set in the late '70s around Kinlochewe, weaving in details about mountains, geology, a crashed wartime plane and swimming in upland lochs.

The museum said: "John will share with us the stories behind his book, his journey as a writer and answer any questions we might have. We hope you can join us for what is sure to be an interesting afternoon. We hope you can join us!"

It takes place at 4pm.

The author was also at Ullapool Bookshop yesterday – one of his earliest champions where over 500 copies have been sold.

He gave a reading from the book to a capacity audience and revealed some of its themes including connections to WW2, gelogy, rocks and Kishorn.
