Ullapool Bookshop has celebrated selling its 500th copy of The Faultline by John McLellan.

The Faultline, by the debut author, is a novel set in the rural north–west Highlands, which explores life, friendship and the landscape.

John has visited Ullapool Bookshop on multiple occasions to sign copies and meet readers.

Since the launch of the book in April, Ullapool Bookshop has now sold more than 500 copies of the contemporary novel, becoming the fastest selling paperback novel ever carried by Ullapool Bookshop.

Tina Thomson, owner of Ullapool Bookshop said:"William and I are delighted for John McLellan, that as a debut author, his novel ‘The Faultline’ has appealed to so many of Ullapool Bookshop’s customers in such a short space of time. We congratulate him on such a professional publication and look forward to seeing him at Ullapool Bookshop again in 2023."

John McLellan, author of the Faultline, said:"Back in May this year, when the first copy was sold, I had no idea that people would seek out my novel in such numbers."

John wrote The Faultline whilst being a Volunteer for the NHS in Bristol during the lockdowns, and is currently donating £1 from sale of every copy to Southmead Hospital, Bristol.

He continued:"The team at Ullapool Bookshop have worked very hard to keep up with the interest and I am very grateful to them. Part of my very soul is deep in the north–west Highlands, and it truly moves me that hundreds of visitors, and people who live there, have found the book so appealing. To be honest, the lovely feedback I get from people continually blows me away."

A recent review of ‘The Faultline’ says:"This is an extraordinary novel, in the way John McLellan vividly brings to life his love for the hills and area of Kinlochewe; in the way he introduces us to all of his characters, some of whom were based on his own life experiences, and in the way he compellingly weaves in Geology, the history and lessons about life and friendships too."

The Faultline can be found at bookshops across Scotland, or bought locally at Ullapool Bookshop.
