AN author drawing on memories of a geology field trip to Wester Ross admits to feeling "amazed and a tad overwhelmed" ahead of a special book signing in the area.

John McLellan set debut novel The Faultline in the rugged landscape of the north-west Highlands and Kinlochewe.

Set in 1997, it tells the story of a group of geology students on a summer long field trip.

Amidst wild swimming, geological surveys, summer jobs and the exploration of a crashed wartime plane, they begin to confront their futures, and discover more about life, love and themselves – and the amazing landscape and geology of the area.
