A 50th anniversary celebration of a Ross-shire school was enjoyed by the whole community.
When Dingwall Primary School reached the anniversary last week it had the whole town talking about their memories of the school, and the town clock was even lit up in celebration of the milestone.
Teacher Eilidh Mellon said the anniversary had ignited lots of memories amongst the community, not least among staff themselves after discovering 15 of the school cohort were former pupils.
She said: "Last Friday was the 50th anniversary of the opening of the new school, so we wanted to do something to mark the occasion in a Covid friendly way.
"The whole community got involved with local shops displaying artwork the children had done in school and we held a bake off competition to create a birthday cake for our home learners, and those in the hub, in primary four to seven.
"The community council very kindly lit up the town clock in the colours of the school.
"On the day itself the school playground was alive with the atmosphere of the 70s as we played music of the era, and everyone seemed to enjoy it. It certainly got lots of people talking about their memories of the school.
"Parents and grand parents spoke of their memories of the school, and its opening in 1971. Some spoke about walking for the first time into the school. The day was a catalyst for remembering stories about their own time at Dingwall Primary School and of course how it has been part of the town's own history as well."
Teachers at the school also put together a web site to share stories about the school.
One of the highlights was an interview with Mr Dubanowski, who has been at the school as the janitor since the 1980s.
Ms Mellon continued: "I was a pupil at Dingwall Primary School and I went away to Glasgow to study teaching. It was by chance that I was sent here as a probationary teacher in 2004, and then a job came up at the school which I applied for.
"I have spent my whole career here. Like many other people who come to the school – I never want to leave. It is a great place to go to school, to teach and to be part of the community."
