Winner of Cromarty Arts Trust Caroline Hewat Prize 2021 is sew happy with accolade

COVID-19 may have played havoc with much of pupils’ schooling this past 18 months or so but the resilient students have battled on with their studies and Fortrose Academy still awarded their end of term prizes to this year’s leavers.
One such prize, the Cromarty Arts Trust Caroline Hewat Prize 2021, given to a school-leaver demonstrating outstanding ability in art and design, has this year been awarded to old Izzy Inman, who lives near Culbokie.
Izzy is no stranger to the Arts Trust, having previously attended one of its sewing courses.Other family members have also been involved in its arts programme. Izzy’s brother, Joe, won the inaugural Caroline Hewat Prize in 2017 before heading off to study architecture.
Said Izzy on learning of her successful selection: “I was very surprised but excited to hear I was to be given this award as I found during my Advanced higher Costume Design project that I still have a lot to learn and working from home for the majority of time was quite a challenge!
"The sewing course I did with the Cromarty Arts Trust a couple of years ago proved very useful during my project though. I am happy to be going to Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh in September to study Costume Design & Construction, but after that, who knows?”
As well as the accolade and certificate, the prize includes either an intern opportunity (in some years) or complimentary entry to two of the CAT workshops/courses. Where these options prove tricky however, the Trust offers prizewinners £250 in Hobbycraft vouchers and Izzy was thrilled to receive this option. She said: “It really is amazing that you are giving this award during these difficult circumstances – I really appreciate it.”
The Cromarty Arts Trust Caroline Hewat Prize was created in 2017 in memory of the Trust’s former Manager and well-respected local artist, Caroline, who sadly passed away suddenly in 2015.
The Arts Trust said: "A big congratulations to Izzy and we look forward to following your career in costume design in the future!"
