A YOUNG artist from the Black Isle who has set her sights on art school has been honoured.

Abby Ross, from Avoch has been awarded this year’s Cromarty Arts Trust Caroline Hewat Prize after demonstrating “outstanding ability in art and design”.

The award was created by the trust in memory of their former employee and well-respected artist, Caroline Hewat, who passed away in 2015.

And Abby, who has just left Fortrose Academy, was named 2019’s recipient after impressing teachers with her “years of passion and dedication in the art department”. Ms Ross said she was “very surprised and absolutely delighted” to win.

As well as the accolade, her prize includes two Cromarty Arts Trust visual arts or applied craft courses. As she intends to apply to art school in 2020, she will use them to add new pieces to her portfolio.
