FORTROSE Academy graduate Freya Povlsen has been named this year’s winner of an award established in memory of a local artist.

Miss Povlsen was the unanimous choice of her teachers to be recipient of the Cromarty Arts Trust Caroline Hewat prize, named in honour of local artist Caroline Hewat who died in 2015.

The prize goes to a Fortrose Academy leaver who has demonstrated outstanding ability in art.

Miss Povlsen will now have the opportunity to undertake a two-week, paid internship at Cromarty Arts Trust, helping out at events, assisting with marketing and admin and organising the Creative Cromarty Competition, a fun challenge for amateur artists.

She said: "I’m honestly very grateful to receive this kind of recognition for my work and I think this is such a fantastic opportunity to give to someone of my age who is looking to step forward after leaving school."
