Inverness Airport remained open overnight to accommodate 30 passengers.

Inverness Airport kept its terminal open overnight for about 30 stranded passengers after their flight was cancelled.

The affected passengers had been due to take last night's EasyJet flight from Inverness to Gatwick but it was cancelled after a delay of about two hours, leaving people annoyed and disappointed.

People then faced a further wait to retrieve their luggage.

It came after some other flights between Inverness and London were cancelled over the weekend.

A spokesman for Highlands and Islands Airport (HIAL) said: "The team at Inverness Airport worked with the airline to find suitable accommodation for passengers affected by the cancellation of the Inverness to Gatwick flight last night.

"The terminal facilities were kept open for those that had to stay overnight, and our staff made every effort to make them as comfortable as possible."

It is understood there were 30 passengers in the terminal overnight.

Two London-bound early morning flights from Inverness were cancelled yesterday after storms swept the UK.

They were the EasyJet flight due to leave for Gatwick at 7.05am and the 7am British Airway flight to Heathrow.

On Sunday, the Inverness-bound EasyJet flight from Luton and British Airways flight from Heathrow were also cancelled.

EasyJet has been contacted for comment on the latest cancellation.
