Bad weather in London led to the cancellation of two flights from Inverness Airport this morning.

Two London-bound flights from Inverness Airport were cancelled this morning as storms swept the UK.

The 7am British Airway flight to Heathrow was cancelled.

The EasyJet flight due to leave for Gatwick at 7.05am was also cancelled.

A spokesman for Highlands and Islands Airports (HIAL), which operates Inverness Airport, said the cancellations were due to bad weather in London.

It follows misery for air passengers with flights from London to Inverness cancelled yesterday.

One Inverness-bound passenger caught up in the disruption found her EasyJet flight from Luton was cancelled and so booked a British Airways flight from Heathrow.

"They kept us waiting in the airport until 10pm even though it was clear it would be cancelled as the delay was later than Inverness Airport closes," she said.

"There were so many cancelled flights that they couldn’t offer us hotel rooms so hundreds of people from lots of cancelled flights were told to exit the airport and pay and claim."

Passengers were told they would be emailed details of new flights but that did not happen so she booked a train instead.

She said it was chaos at Heathrow.

"They said it was due to weather which seems strange as flights were still taking off," she said.
