AN early bird angler caught the first fish of an Easter Ross club's water this season in unusual circumstances.

The coronavirus lockdown has put fishing on hold for weeks as part of government guidelines aimed at containing the virus and limiting a wide variety of non-essential activities.

However it was confirmed yesterday that anglers would finally be able to make a return to riverbanks so long as they comply with social distancing guidelines and observe hygiene protocols.

Alness Angling Club this morning announced that Declan Heenan had caught the first fish in club waters for the 2020 season.

The fish was caught on a cascade tube in the lady pool at 6am this morning.

It was safely returned to the water, the club said.
