Steven Ferguson says Ross County got a monkey off their back beating Aberdeen after recording only their second away win of the season in the Scottish Premiership.
Billy Mckay's late strike gave the Staggies a 2–1 win at Pittodrie to move them 10 points ahead of bottom placed Hearts in the league in ninth.
Ross County have picked up seven points from their last four games as they appear to be finding form going into the final quarter of the season.
However co-manager Ferguson says winning at Aberdeen felt like a moment the club turned the corner.
“We did feel a monkey on our back given our away form,” he said.
“For us to right a wrong and win the game was big for us as a group.
“We try to improve everything we do and our two performances against Aberdeen this season, we definitely needed to improve.
“We felt we got that improvement, ultimately it gives us a chance to win the game and that is all we ask from the players.”
Ross County fell behind after 30 minutes when Curtis Main scored.
But the turning point came minutes later when Aberdeen were reduced to 10 men when Dean Campbell received a second yellow card for not being 10 metres away from a free kick and interfered with play.
The Staggies took full advantage and levelled just before half time when Mckay beat the Aberdeen defence in the air to nod Richard Foster’s cross past Joe Lewis.
The Northern Irishman then secured all three points two minutes from time when he latched on to Don Cowie’s cross from midfield and fired past Lewis into the bottom right corner of the net for victory.
Ferguson praised Mckay’s killer instinct with the striker having scored five goals in his last four games.
“Billy is a striker that people need to create chances for and give opportunities for,” he said.
“He got that from a cross from Richard Foster and a pass from Don Cowie.
“As long as players keep doing that we will always back Billy to score.
“Like any striker it is about confidence and getting into that run again.
“Thankfully he has got into that run again and I hope he stays in that run.”
