Yarn bombing brings splash of colour to Muir of Ord before village gala
Muir of Ord woke up to a riot of colour this morning thanks to a yarn bomb 'assault' courtesy of the Tarra Gals SWI.
There has been a Women's Institute in Muir of Ord since 1921 but the old group closed after the pandemic.
Members Phyllis Hannah and Dorothy Young decided to rebrand with a recruitment campaign which has seen the membership increase to 21 members.
A "break away" craft club meets separately to the main group's monthly meeting, and it was this group which has worked tirelessly over the past two months to bring the colourful addition to the village as part of the community spirit, for Muir of Ord Gala Week which kicks off tomorrow.
"There has been an amazing response from the local community to the yarn bombing which has also seen an increase in participants to our Facebook page," group member Phyllis Hannah said. "We are already planning new additions for next year.”
With a growing membership, the Tarra Gals SWI are keeping busy over the summer months and will be providing the cakes and goodies for the Gala’s Tea Dance on Thursday, July 20.
They will also be providing the refreshments at the Black Isle Community Market, North Kessock on August 26, before the start of their new session on Monday, August 28 at 7pm at the Ord Arms Hotel.
New members are always welcome.
