ELECTORS registered in an Easter Ross ward who are planning stating their preference for a new Highland councillor should now have received their poll card.

Highland Council has given an update on the forthcoming by-election for the Tain and Easter Ross ward.

One of three seats became vacant on the resignation of Sarah Rawlings (Scottish Libertal Democrat).

Seven candidates have put themselves forward to take that seat.

Voting will take place on Thursday, September 28 with the electronic count taking place the following day in the ward.

Tain and Easter Ross is a three-member ward.

The successful candidate will join fellow ward members, Councillors Derek Louden (Scottish National Party) and Alasdair Rhind (Highland Independent).]

By now those registered electors for the Tain and Easter Ross by-election should have received their poll card.

Permanent postal voters will have received a purple coloured poll card indicating that they are voting by post.

For those voters who vote in-person at a polling station, they will receive a white poll card indicating the location of their polling place.

In order not to disrupt the education of pupils for this by-election, the council will not be using the school premises of Fearn Primary as a polling station but instead a local community hall. Voters who previously used Fearn Primary School will need to vote at the Seaboard Memorial Hall in Balintore in-person.

The council has made a short film to explain the change of location

The local authority says a dial-a-bus service will be available on Thursday, September 28 for voters living in the Fearn area who would previously have voted at the primary school and will now be using Balintore's Seaboard Memorial Hall. The dial-a-bus service can be contacted via 01862 892166 during the hours of operation from 9am to 5.30pm.

If you wish to vote by post, the deadline to submit an application form is 5pm on Wednesday, September 13. To do this, contact the Electoral Registration Office on 0800 393 783 or via the website https://www.saa.gov.uk/h-wi-vjb/the-electoral-register/
