EASTER Ross youngsters stranded on the A9 as a result of Storm Babet have made it safely home to Alness at last.

As earlier reported, around 59 young people who attend The Place youth group in Alness had been returning by bus from a trip to Alton Towers when they got stuck on the key trunk road in the early hours of Friday morning because of a landslide near Dunkeld.

That closed the road both ways for a spell earlier today, wreaking havoc with the transport plans of thousands.

They made their way to Broxden to await developments. Youth leaders were full of praise for the resilient young people and the bus driver for rising to the occasion in challenging times.

'I’m entirely grateful to work within such a remarkable organisation which has ultimately helped shape the person I am today'

Parents kept abreast of developments as the day went on through Facebook messages had messages of thanks for those looking after their kids.

The group finally made it home around lunchtime.

The Place posted: "First of all a huge thanks to D & E coaches and especially drivers Steve and Kyle who went above and beyond to ensure everyone was kept safe.

"Thanks to youth workers Anna, Shar, Nat and young youth workers Sophie, Keira and Owen who were on their first and I suspect possibly their last trip to Alton Towers.

"Thanks also to the youngsters who were brilliant from start to finish and as always we are incredibly proud of them, such a credit to Alness. It was a multi-cultural group and I think our Alness-

based boys were certainly treated to an example of good old Scottish weather.

"Finally thanks to you, all the parents and supporters of The Place. Your patience and kindness in your posts eased the stress we were all under and we are humbled to know you trust us with your child’s welfare.

"Too soon to laugh about the experience but I am sure the youngsters will talk about this trip for years to come because above all else they had a brilliant time.

"Thank you x"

Amongst many notes of thanks from parents was one who wrote: "Thank you to everyone who made the trip possible – the effort you put in was amazing and so very much appreciated. It was reassuring to see this was a well organised trip. This is such a positive thing for the kids in the area making great memories!"
