HEAVY snow has fallen across many parts of the Highlands and further afield in recent weeks – but what are the various depths around the wider region?

Well, the Met Office has released a video map showcasing the general depths across Scotland, and further afield, and picked out specific depths at various key sites.

Loch Glascarnoch in Ross-shire, not far from the location where 22 vehicles wound up trapped last week, currently has an average depth of 18cm.

While Aviemore is not far behind on 17cm.

A Met Office spokesman said: "Whilst there's a patchy covering in some western areas, the deepest UK snow depths are across northern and eastern areas, with very deep drifts in places."
