AN Easter Ross supermarket formed the backdrop for a spectacular show of support for the key workers and volunteers keeping things going during the coronavirus lockdown.

Morrisons in Alness was turned NHS blue on Thursday night with help from Prism Event Lighting, which is based in neighbouring Invergordon.

Prism's Keith Bauer has been lighting up a number of landmark buildings in Ross-shire during the lockdown in a bid to pay tribute to workers, acknowledge volunteers and raise spirits.

The store's community champion June Ross was keen to show appreciation to all key workers during an event which coincided with Clap for Carers evening .

In attendance and social distancing were some of the local volunteers along with Alan Ryan and team from the Scottish Ambulance Service and Michael Macdonald of RNLI Invergordon. As community champion, June Ross supports the Morrisons' doorstep deliveries as well as helping a number of local groups which include Covid 19 Alness/Evanton; Action For Children; Invergordon 1st responders; Covid 19 Invergordon; Tain Community Fridge; Helping Hands Highland and Highland Foodbank.

These groups, along with local food outlets, are cooking and delivering hot meals to around 200 elderly or vulnerable people every day, organising pop-up free shops, manning the local food banks, picking up medicine prescriptions, supplying food packages, checking on the elderly and vulnerable and providing children's activity packs and lunches.

Each Tuesday, in addition to daily donations by local shops, Morrisons Feed the Nation programme donates £1000 worth of food to these groups.

Drone footage was provided by Newfield Communications. Rees Campbell Digital Media took still photographs and the video was put together by Angus at Alness Entertainment Services.

Other landmark buildings getting the blue light treatment to date have included Kincraig Castle Hotel, the Co-op stores in Evanton and Alness, the Novar Arms in Evanton and the CAB office in Alness.
