THE owner of what is a welcome Wester Ross landmark for many foodies is this week revealed as the latest star of a series of short films extolling the virtues of the area to visitors.

The latest film released by Visit Wester Ross, a voluntary tourism association, is part of its drive to attract visitors with an affinity to the area and the people who live there.

Lucy Kerr is owner of the Kishorn Seafood Bar, the instantly recognisable sky-blue log cabin restaurant specialising in fresh shellfish at its waterside setting with views over Loch Kishorn to Skye and the Applecross peninsula.

Prawns, squat lobsters and scallops come from the local waters of the Minch and the mussels and oysters from Skye.

Lucy, committed to supporting sustainability and local suppliers, said: “Our favourite visitors to Wester Ross are the ones who really engage with the area. They stay for a while, they visit the mountains, the local businesses, restaurants and artists and make the most of the environment we have here.

“I really hope that this campaign attracts people like that.”

She added: “We are really incredibly lucky with the quality of the shellfish and the fish supplies that we have here in Wester Ross. The relationship that I have with the fishermen, the proximity to the fishing grounds, the fact that the lobsters come off the boat in the morning, into the restaurant and on to the table by three o’clock in the afternoon is just one of the best things in the world.”

The films feature West Coasters looking to develop sustainable tourism in the area, which is also designated a Biosphere by UNESCO.

Douglas Gibson, co-ordinator at Visit Wester Ross, said: “There’s a lot more to Wester Ross than a quick drive through, or a one-night stopover.”
