New NC500 record breaker Robbie Mitchell has been congratulated by the cyclist whose time he smashed.

Mr Mitchell (40), raced round the 516-mile route in an amazing 29 hours, five minutes and 42 seconds.

He bettered the previous record set by Josh Quigley last year by nearly two hours. Mr Quigley came in at 31 hours, 19 minutes and eight seconds.

But Mr Quigley was gracious despite being knocked off the top perch.

He said: “To beat my record by over two hours shows how strong and impressive a performance it was.

“I can only respect and applaud Robbie and his team for what they have achieved - very well deserved.”
