WATCH: Record-breaker Robbie Mitchell smashes NC500 cycle time with time to spare
Cyclist Robbie Mitchell, who hails from Durness, has smashed the world record for the fastest cycle ride around tourism route NC500.
The veteran cyclist completed the 516-mile route in 29 hours, five minutes and 42 seconds, comfortably beating the previous record of 31 hours, 19 minutes and eight seconds.
Tired but elated, Robbie returned to the Highland capital in the early hours of the morning after setting out at midnight the previous day.
He was raising money through the challenge for the Edinburgh Sutherland Association.
In a Facebook message to sister paper the Northern Times, association president Andrew Mackenzie said: “Looks like he did it in 29 hours, five minutes and 42 seconds. So our local boy shaved over two hours off the record!”
The video shows Robbie cycling into Inverness earlier this morning. More information when we have it.
