A number of Ross-shire householders have been without electricity through the night following an outage in Wester Ross.

A handful of residents in part of the Applecross peninsula are still without power after the unplanned outage which was reported at 6.34pm last night.

It had affected over 160 customers at one point yesterday night.

Power distribution company SSEN – which has raised its weather watch status today due to forecasted high winds – says the outage, while affecting only seven customers covers a large area in Wester Ross.

It said: "This is affecting a large area and it's likely several streets in your area are affected by the same outage."

It says that due to a busier than usual day, "all our engineers are currently working on other faults".

Local teams are aware and "are working hard to find resources to attend and get your power back on".

It's hoped power will be restored by noon today.

A fault on the network is blamed.

The postcodes affected at present are IV54 8ND and IV54 8XL.

A weather warning is in place for high winds with ferry services already affected and ScotRail maintaining a watching brief.
