Raging January set to go out with a blast in Highlands amidst latest wind warning

A TUMULTUOUS month for weather is set to continue with yet another alert indicating that January is not going to bow out gently.
In the wake of major storms and an earlier blanketing of snow which threw travel plans into chaos and led to thousands of Highland school pupils missing classes.

A weather warning for wind was in place for six hours today with multiple reports of trees down, including areas around Contin, Garve and on the road in to Ullapool.
A second weather warning for strong wind across the Highlands was issued earlier today.
It follows one due to run until this evening that started at 11am this morning.
The latest one for the Highlands starts at 7am on Wednesday, January 31 and runs until 7pm the same day.
It states: Strong winds may cause some disruption during Wednesday. This may mean:
- There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris
- There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
- There is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, air and ferry services are affected
- There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close
- There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
- There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.
