Ullapool first as world's last seagoing paddle steamer Waverley set to visit
Ullapool is set to receive a visit from the last seagoing paddle steamer in the world, the Waverley.
It will be during her annual visit to Oban and the Inner Hebrides.
On May 22, the historical steamship will be offering a sailing from Ullapool and down Lochbroom, and along the west coast to Gairloch or Kyle of Lochalsh.
Kevin Peach, Ullapool harbourmaster, said: “I’ve been really keen to welcome Waverley to Ullapool for a number of years and I’m absolutely delighted that the team has been able to schedule her maiden call in May. Paddle Steamer Waverley is a beloved vessel of real national importance and we will be proud to host her. I am hopeful that there will be a heavy uptake among locals and visitors to the area and that this will encourage Waverley to visit us annually.”
Passengers of the Waverley, which was built in 1946, are welcome to visit the boat's engine room and take in the sights of the steamship, with full catering facilities also available on the cruise.

Waverley’s Master, Captain Dominic McCall, said: “Following the outstanding support we received last year we are very keen to further develop Waverley’s sailing programme to allow locals and visitors alike to enjoy a trip aboard this magnificent steamship. I particularly enjoy cruising the Inner Hebrides with its stunning surroundings. I look forward to taking Waverley to Ullapool for the first time and welcoming passengers aboard for a great day out.”
