School's out for hundreds of children in the Highland Council area as severe road conditions hamper transport

HUNDREDS of schoolchildren are unable to get to school today due to treacherous road conditions in the Highlands.

In Ross-shire they include Bualnaluib Primary and Poolewe Primary (severe road conditions).

Gairloch High School and Gairloch Primary are described as "partially closed" due to a lack of school transport because of the road conditions.

Highland Council updates its list every school day morning at 7am. Today's includes:

Aviemore Early Learning and Childcare Service: Closed (no water/heating/power)

Aviemore Primary: Closed (no water/heating/power)

Bualnaluib Primary: Closed (severe road conditions)

Bualnaluib Primary Nursery: Closed (severe road conditions)

Farr High School: Closed (severe road conditions)

Farr Primary (Suth): Closed (severe road conditions)

Farr Primary Nursery (Suth): Closed (severe road conditions)

Gairloch High School: Partially closed - no school transport (severe road conditions)

Gairloch Primary: Partially closed - no school transport (severe road conditions)

Gairloch Primary Nursery - EM: Partially closed - no school transport (severe road conditions)

Gairloch Primary Nursery - GM: Partially closed - no school transport (severe road conditions)

Lochinver Primary: Closed (severe road conditions)

Melvich Primary: Closed (severe road conditions)

Melvich Primary Nursery: Closed (severe road conditions)

Poolewe Primary: Closed (severe road conditions)

Poolewe Primary Nursery: Closed (severe road conditions)

Tongue Primary: Closed (severe road conditions)

Tongue Primary Nursery: Closed (severe road conditions)

Total schools closed:

Secondary schools: 2 (181 pupils)

Primary schools: 8 (455 pupils)

Nurseries: 7 (72 children)
