STAFF at a world-renowned hostelry are warning visitors that their normally friendly village deer should not be approached.

Applecross Inn, who sell "tasty" venison on their menu, say that because of rutting season, the wild animals should not be approached.

In a post on Facebook, staff at the west coast inn said: "It’s also rutting season, so be aware that our local deer may not be as “friendly” as they’re known to be.

"They’re also noisy at this time of year and can be heard right outside the inn during the night, as our guests have been telling us over breakfast today.

"Our red deer are beautiful and magnificent beasts but always be aware of the damage they can do to people and vehicles.

"They’re beautiful, they’re magnificent, they can be dangerous and they’re also bloody tasty.

"Look out for our local loin of venison on special over the coming weeks. With our own delicious potato gratin, wild mushrooms, tenderstem broccoli and red wine jus - you won’t be stuck in a rut with that in your belly.
