A BIG-HEARTED response to the plight of others inspired a welcome boost for the work of a charity being supported by well-wishers in Wester Ross.
Gairloch and Loch Ewe Action Forum (GALE) has supported global efforts to highlight the need for access to sanitation, clean water and hygiene education in some of the world’s poorest countries.
A Toilet Twinning initiative supported by Tearfund works to improve the situation.
One of the more imaginative fundraising ideas was the creation of a replica of Kinlochewe Ewe Public Toilets in cake form as part of a sale and auction. It alone raised over £100, with a total of £756.34 realised.
That included a stall by a Gairloch High School pupil, cash donations and money made from soups and community-donated baking at the community café at the GALE centre.
World Toilet Day celebrates toilets and raises awareness of the 3.6 billion people living without access to safely-managed sanitation. It is about taking action to tackle the global sanitation crisis and achieve the sustainable development goal of clean water and sanitation by 2030.
Donation boxes in local public loos were supported by those unable to attend.
