A FAULTY pole box at the centre of a pylon fire in Ross-shire this afternoon has been isolated from the network with a full repair set to take place tonight.

Firefighters had been alerted this afternoon and were able to leave the scene at 4.29pm after the blaze had been put out.

The A835 trunk route was closed for a period of time for safety reasons.

Traffic Scotland later confirmed the road had re-opened shortly afterwards.

Police were called in to coordinate diverting traffic while firefighters were tackling the blaze.

A spokeswoman for energy company SSEN (Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks) said: "Today we were alerted to damage to our network near Conon Bridge which was caused by a faulty pole box.

"Our engineers were on site by 3pm and isolated the pole from the network. A full repair is due to be undertaken later tonight. One customer lost supply as a result of this fault and their supply will be restored by 8pm."

She added: "SSEN would encourage customers to call 105 or download SSEN's Power Track app to report power cuts and damage to electricity power lines, substations or equipment that could put themselves, or someone else, in danger.

"Customers should always avoid approaching damaged or fallen power lines, keep at least five metres away, and report incidents immediately."
