Snow, ice and rain cause issues on Ross-shire routes as Highland Council gritters do the rounds

HIGHLAND Council gritters have been tackling snow and ice-hit roads in Ross-shire and the wider region today amid a heads-up on likely "minor flooding" to come.

In Lochalsh and Wester Ross, heavy snow was reported on the highest routes towards the west.

The C1087 Bealach na Ba was closed due to heavy snow.

Highland Council said conditions are being monitored and the road will be reopened as soon as practical.

Lower levels routes have patches of ice with snow and hail showers. All routes "are being treated as required".

In Ross and Cromarty East, three inches of wet snow was reported on some routes.

Some cars got stuck at North Kessock first thing with traffic reportedly moving okay now and affected routes being treated.

A combination of rain, sleet and snow-melt "will likely cause some minor flooding issues throughout the day".

No serious overnight issues were reported.

On Skye and Raasay, wet roads were reported with light sleet showers on high ground. The morning temperature was higher than forecast at approximately O degrees celsius.

In Inverness, two inches of wet snow cover on low roads was recorded with up to six inches of snow cover on high roads. The local authority said gritters are blading and gritting on all routes.

Two inches of snow was reported on some higher routes in Sutherland with slush and rain on the lower routes.

In Nairn, there was 3cm of snow on higher ground. High roads "being treated as necessary".
