A FRESH coat of snow greeted many in Ross-shire yesterday amid weather warnings for large parts of the Highlands.

Sledges, snowballs and snowmen were a tempting diversion for some.

The Met Office said wet weather associated with Storm Christoph will push in from the North Sea and Moray Firth early on Thursday and turn to snow, even at modest elevations.

Snow accumulations of 5-10cm are possible at low-levels whilst 10-20cm snow is likely above around 200m. In addition, strong winds are expected to develop on Thursday, leading to blizzard conditions at times over higher ground, and icing on infrastructure, such as power lines.

Weather warnings are also in place for rain in parts of the Highlands.

Tonight it is epxected to be chilly with strong northerly winds continuing. It will be largely cloudy with wintry showers, falling as snow at high levels.
