AN art exhibition in Invergordon next week will showcase the work of dozens of diverse artistic talents from across the Highlands and beyond.

More than 70 paintings and a variety of different works from other disciplines will be on view at the four-day Invergordon Museum and Royal Legion fundraising event which begins on Thursday.

It is hoped the exhibition, part of ongoing efforts to attract more people to the Ross-shire town, will become an annual event.

The town’s naval museum and heritage centre and British Legion will benefit from a small fee and 10 per cent of an artist’s sales each day within the exhibition space.

The museum’s vice-chairman James Collier said: “We already have the guaranteed presence of around 70 paintings from artists around the Highlands and further afield, along with some people who will display other artistic work from tables.

“Others of all disciplines and abilities are welcome to join us and take part.

“The artworks are of an amazing standard and we are hoping it will bring people from far and wide to visit the museum.

“People are welcome to come along and view the art on display, and hopefully some will want to purchase and take home something beautiful.

“We are also hoping the town, as a whole, will benefit as visitors will make their way to other shops as well.”

Although the event serves as a fundraiser, Mr Collier felt it was important to give Highland artistic talent another platform.

He added: “Although the art exhibition will be raising money for the museum, it is also about giving artists from the Highlands a chance to showcase their talents while the town, as a whole, benefits.

“Invergordon is a place with a long history, which should be attracting even more people and events than it does.

“We hope this art exhibition will help work us towards becoming what it can be.”

Last entries for exhibitors will be the morning of Wednesday, May 24, with the artist required to visit the museum, fill in a form and bring their works ready for display.
