FAMILIES in Ross-shire are being urged to tap their creative side in tribute to the key workers who have kept the country going during the coronavirus lockdown.

Kincraig Castle Hotel outside Invergordon is behind the Fantastic Fairies competition and has put up a variety of prizes ranging from a tour and Sunday lunch or afternoon tea to a weekend stay with dinner.

People are being asked to design a fairy house or model dedicated to a chosen key worker, whether that be doctors, nurses, farmers, posties, lorry drivers or supermarket workers.

Entrants are then invited to take photographs of their model and email it, along with details of which key worker they have chosen and why, to the hotel.

The top 100 entries will be displayed outside in the ground of the hotel.

Hotel boss Ray Grant explained: "The participants’ creations will be displayed at our hotel, which we hope will provide a lasting memory after the lockdown is lifted. We’ve also contacted the head teachers at all our local schools directly and asked them to encourage their children to participate in this competition. We're also promoting it on our Facebook and Twitter social media channels which we hope will encourage children, families and schools to enter.

Entries should be made of weather-poof materials though the hotel insists there's no need to buy expensive materials.Milk bottles. plastic tubs and cans can all be used.

It has a closing date of June 30 and prizes up for grabs include a weekend stay at Kincraig Castle Hotel, with dinner for up to six people; a tour of the castle followed by afternoon tea or Sunday lunch.

There will also be a mystery prize for the school with most entries.

The entry form and 360 photographs of the model that has been made should be sent to fantastic-fairies@kincraig-castle-hotel.co.uk
