THE response to an experimental 'bakery pop-up' in a Ross-shire village has delighted the owners of a cafe that was moth-balled there earlier this year.

Bad Girl Bakery yesterday described its first bakery pop-up in Muir of Ord as "a wee experiment to see if there was demand".

It turned out there was.

The business – which expanded to Inverness – later posted: "We sold out in three hours and couldn’t be more delighted! Huge thank you to everyone who came."

Its Muir of Ord cafe was moth-balled at the end of June with the impact of Covid, Brexit and the cost of living crisis all cited amongst the reasons.

It said it had made the "really difficult decision to close the cafe part of our Muir of Ord business for the time being".

The award-winning businesses has been built up by Douglas Hardie and Jeni Iannetta who have developed an outlet in Inverness within the Victorian Market.

They announced at the time that they would continue producing in Muir of Ord and retain their development kitchen there. They also planned to develop a dedicated cook school to help meet the demand.

The Bad Girl Muir of Ord front of house team were all able to continue working at the Inverness outlet with the production team remaining in Muir of Ord to support other parts of the business.

The couple said at the time their commitments to the village remain unaffected with continued sponsorship of the gala tea, food at the float parade and support for Ben Wyvis Cycle Club.
