Bad Girl Bakery closes Muir of Ord cafe as knock-on impact of Covid, Brexit and cost of living crisis take toll

AN award-winning Ross-shire business has moth-balled its cafe as it continues to battle the impact of Covid, Brexit and the cost of living crisis.
Bad Girl Bakery says it has made the "really difficult decision to close the cafe part of our Muir of Ord business for the time being".
In a statement shared this morning, the well-respected local businesses built up by Douglas Hardie and Jeni Iannetta – which has also developed an outlet in Inverness within the Victorian Market – said: "Until things get better we just can’t make this part of the business work.
"As gutted as we are, there’s lots to be thankful for. We will carry on producing there and keep our development kitchen there. Also, right now we can’t keep up with the demand for classes and courses so we are going to develop a dedicated cook school so we can schedule and offer more.
"The last few years have been so challenging in hospitality that we’ve had to adapt and change so much to survive and this is what we need to do now to get through this.
"The most important thing for us was doing the right thing for our amazing Bad Girl Muir of Ord Team and we’re delighted to say that all the front of house team will be joining us in inverness and all the production team will carry on baking in Muir of Ord to support the other parts of the business.
"The Muir of Ord cafe’s last trading day was yesterday.This might feel sudden, but it’s been on the cards for a long time and we really have exhausted all the options. Most importantly, doing it now secures jobs for our all our team."
It says its commitments to the village remain unaffected with continued sponsorship of the gala tea, food at the float parade and support for Ben Wyvis Cycle Club.
All classes and courses will go ahead in Muir of Ord and the Inverness end of the business is "unaffected and open as usual".
It said: "We really do hope that we will be back open in some form soon, but in the meantime we’re so sorry. We’re so grateful for your support. We will miss our Muir of Ord cafe customers so much but hope you’ll continue to support us by visiting our Inverness Bakery and by following us on social media for updates on Muir of Ord."
