LIFESAVING teams on the east and west coasts have appealed for volunteers to fill some of their key onshore roles.

The RNLI's Kyle of Lochalsh and North Kessock crews have both launched appeals for volunteers to step forward and help out.

The Kyle team is seeking a lifeboat operations manager, a deputy launching authority post, and a lifeboat administration officer.

The North Kessock crew, meanwhile, is on the lookout for a deputy launching authority.

"Have you watched our lifeboat launch on a shout or exercise and thought you'd love to get involved with the station but don't fancy a sea-going role?" asked a spokesman for the Kyle crew. "Well, we have some very rewarding shore-based volunteer roles available."

The lifeboat operations manager role authorises the launch of lifeboats, provides leadership for the operations team, and also ensures that all duties are carried out to maintain the lifeboats and equipment so they care in a "constant state of readiness for launching" on rescues.

The deputy launching authority role sees volunteers authorise launches of the lifeboats, provide leadership in the absence of the lifeboat operations manager, and also works to ensure that all lifeboats are properly maintained and associated equipment is always ready to launch on a rescue.

And the lifeboat administration officer position sees volunteers record notes and minutes of various meetings and also act as the primary contact point on general administrative matters of interest to the lifeboat station.

They may also support operations teams through the RNLI's computer systems.
