AN annual car wash event to support a North Kessock-based charity smashed its fundraising records this year.

Over 30 volunteers from Kessock RNLI, HM Coastguard and the Kessock RNLI fundraising team joined forces and suited up for their annual car wash fundraiser earlier in March.

The fundraising event, which sees a variety of vehicles from small cars to fire engines drive through the Kessock RNLI Lifeboat Station to be washed, has had a record year, with 246 vehicles through the door, netting a fantastic £2690 for the Kessock RNLI.

Speaking on behalf of Kessock RNLI, volunteer helm, Dougie Munro, said: "Once again, our annual car wash was a massive success. This was down to the incredible support from our suppliers, search and rescue partners, lifeboat fundraising team and of course, our amazing supporters who came out in crowds to have their cars, trucks, campervans and everything in between cleaned by our dedicated team of volunteers, who worked tirelessly all day.

"Everyone's continued support at such a trying time for us, has been very humbling. The event couldn't take place without the help from all the volunteers, from making rolls, cups of tea and cakes to actually washing the cars, everyone had a vital role to play.

"We'd also like to thank the local businesses who donate all the equipment and chemicals, such as, Macgregor Industrial Supplies, Morris Leslie Group, Highland Industrial Supplies, Creative Signs and Kem Distribution, but most of all, the generous support of the public, who, through their donations, are helping us to continue to save lives at sea."

Money raised will go towards equipment – gloves come at £25 a pair, helmets at £350 and dry suits at £800 each – and to cover training costs, which can exceed £1400 per crew member.
