POLICE are seeking "to establish the circumstances" surrounding damage to a Ross-shire fish and chip shop whose owner posted a video found deeply offensive by many in the immediate aftermath of Queen Elizabeth II's death.

As previously reported, police intervened in the wake of the incident on Thursday which saw a crowd of people gather outside Jaki Fish and Chip Shop in Muir of Ord.

A video of the proprietor, Jaki Pickett, apparently celebrating the death of the monarch proved to be a flashpoint at a sensitive time.

Police were called after a crowd gathered and Ms Pickett left the scene.

Police said at that point that no further action was required and that officers remained at the scene to ensure the safety of all present and the group subsequently dispersed peacefully.

However police today confirmed they had responded to a report of damage to the property at Seaforth Road understood to have happened between 7.30pm on Friday and 10.30am the following morning.

A statement said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.”

Reports of the original incident went viral online from Thursday onwards with one local telling the Ross-shire Journal the area had become "like a circus" over following nights.

The Daily Telegraph published a comment piece titled: "The awful reason why the Scottish village of Muir of Ord is now known across the globe."
