AN Easter Ross community has access to a new post office that will be open 45 hours across six days of the week.

The new service has opened at Alness Newsagents at 56 High Street.

The previous branch at 39 High Street, Alness had been operated by a temporary postmaster.

It closed on August31 due to the resignation of the postmaster.

The latest arrangement is described as a new-style Post Office Local service with two serving points alongside the retail counter of the nearby confectionery, tobacco and news store.

The opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm; Saturday: 9am – 2pm.

This means that the branch is open an extra 8 hours a week than before including all-day Tuesday and longer opening hours on Saturday.

David Duff, Post Office Network Provision Manager, said: “We are delighted to have restored a post office to Alness with a permanent solution and longer opening hours.”

The new branch offers the same range of mail services as the previous one but doesn't offer passport check and send. That can be accessed at nearby Invergordon Post Office, however, according to a statement released today.
