AN Easter Ross post office flit proposal has been agreed and will take effect from November.

Post Office has agreed to relocate Alness Post Office to Alness Newsagents, at 56 High Street, saying it will mean an extra eight hours of service to the public per week.

The Post Office said today: "The branch at 39 High Street, which had been operated by a temporary postmaster, closed on Thursday, August 31 due to the resignation of the postmaster. The process to relocate the branch had already begun."

The change will mean a 45-hour per week service running six days a week.

It will come into effect on Friday, November 24 at 1pm.

Alness will be a new-style Post Office Local service with two Post Office serving points alongside the retail counter of the nearby confectionery, tobacco and news store.

The opening hours will be Monday to Friday: 9am – 5pm; Saturday: 9am – 2pm.

Post Office said: "This will mean that the branch will be open an extra 8 hours a week than before including all-day Tuesday and longer opening hours on Saturday for the convenience of customers."

Kenny Lamont, Post Office Network Provision Manager, said: “We are pleased to soon be restoring a Post Office to Alness with a permanent solution and longer opening hours.”
