AN Easter Ross judo club has paid tribute to businesses and supporters who raised £22,000 for the purchase of new mats.

Invergordon Judo Club ran a fun judo session on Saturday at which local clubs were invited to participate along with businesses that supported its fundraising efforts over the last year.

In November last year, the club gave its judo players the chance to experience competition, attracting almost 100 youngsters.

At that time it hosted players from Alness and Evanton, Northern Judo Club, Highland Budokan, Elgin and Tayside.

These events help condition the players to large crowds and experiencing competition surroundings with officials and timekeepers.

ICJ’s Kerry Russell said then: “The judo players evaluated their skills against each other and every fight saw amazing judo on display. Invergordon Judo Club prides itself on being able to host this event free of charge to the players in the Highlands and surrounding regions. We can provide this event free through the voluntary committee working hard on fundraising.”
