ROSS residents are bracing for possible disruption when two Met Office weather warnings hit the area in just three days.

The Met Office has issued a new warning for stormy winds on Monday, which will affect the west coasts of Scotland, Wales, England and all of Northern Ireland.

Forecasters are warning of a "very windy period" when the warning comes into force at midday on Monday. Gusts of 70mph to 80mph are possible.

It will remain in force until midnight the same day and the Met Office is warning that "some disruption to travel [is] likely".

"It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves," said a spokesman.

"Some short term loss of power and other services is possible."

They added that high-sided vehicles may face delays on exposed routes and bridges.

The new warning comes hot on the heels of a separate alert for "persistent and heavy rain" in parts of Ross-shire on Saturday. The warning, whose timeframe has been revised, will come into force at 4am tomorrow and remain in place until 6pm. It was previously expected to last until 9pm.

Saturday's alert has prompted warnings from CalMac that its Ullapool-Stornoway service may face knock-on disruption. It has already cancelled Friday afternoon sailings on the same route.
