FERRY passengers are facing disruption in Wester Ross this afternoon (Friday) after CalMac confirmed sailing cancellations on the busy Ullapool-Stornoway service.

The ferry operator had earlier warned of possible disruption on the route, amid an imminent yellow weather warning from the Met Office.

But this morning it confirmed that the 2pm Stornoway departure and 5.30pm Ullapool sailing were both being cancelled today. Earlier sailings were not affected.

It is also warning passengers of possible disruption on Saturday caused by potential delays to the overnight freight-only sailings in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

A spokesman said: “All sailings may be delayed [on Saturday]due to a knock-on effect from a delayed freight service.”

They added: “Due to adverse weather the 10.30pm departing Stornoway and the 3am departing Ullapool may be disrupted or cancelled at short notice.”

A yellow warning for “persistent and heavy rain” will be in force in some parts of Ross-shire and the wider Highlands from 4am on Saturday until 9pm the same day.
