Train services between Inverness and Aberdeen and northbound between Aviemore and Inverness are being currently being cancelled following lightning this afternoon.

ScotRail has warned passengers: "We have received reports of a loss of signalling due to lightning strikes in the Inverness area.

"Our services are unable to run between Inverness and Aberdeen and between Aviemore and Inverness heading north.

"We are currently looking at for alternative transport and until this is in place, passengers may wish to consider making their own alternative arrangements."

Network Rail Scotland stated: "We're responding to a signal fault in the Inverness area caused by lightning strikes. Our engineers will head to the site and carry out inspections.

"As soon as we have more information, we will then update you further."
