Famous Highland Royal Dornoch golf course opens its fairways to NHS staff as a pandemic thank you

Royal Dornoch Golf Club is offering free rounds on both its courses to NHS and care staff for the remainder of May and all of June.

In a week when Covid-19 restrictions are further eased in most parts of Scotland, the venue is making the gesture for the next six weeks as a thanks for the sterling work of key health staff during the global pandemic.

The offer is also being made in anticipation of a national ‘Thank You Day’ on July 4, with people planning to show their appreciation to all those who have helped during the challenges of Covid-19.

The Royal Dornoch opportunity is open to health staff who are currently members of a golf club and have a valid WHS handicap index.

They may have one round on each of the Royal Dornoch courses, with the championship course rated sixth in the world outside the US, by Golf Digest; and the Struie Course ranked in the top 50 links courses in Great Britain and Ireland.

General manager Neil Hampton said: “It has been a hugely challenging period for so many and this is our way of thanking those who have been on the front-line in the fight against Covid-19.

"We invite health staff from near and far to come and enjoy our wonderful links courses and look forward to giving them our friendly Royal Dornoch welcome.”

The move continues Royal Dornoch's charitable work. In February, club members raised £2,840 in support of the endangered Scottish wildcat.

Leading professionals also recently experienced the famed Royal Dornoch links after the club hosted Paul Lawrie’s Tartan Tour Pro event for a second time.

Those wishing to take up the NHS and care staff golf course offer should contact the club office on bookings@royaldornoch.com or 01862 810219 ext. 1 and supply proof of current employment, within either the NHS or care sector, and their golf club.
