AN animal shelter on the Black Isle has thanked its Number One fundraiser for bringing them £50,000 in the past three years and four months.

The super-fundraiser is dog lover Rhona Dalgarno who with husband Jimmy sell second hand "doggy stuff" from their back garden shed in Crawford Avenue, Rosemarkie, all going towards helping Munlochy Animal Aid run by Iona Nicol.

The enterprise is known as Bella's Bargains, and of course Bella is their dog, a cocker/ cavalier cross, who keeps the other cavaliers, Pixi (cor), Dhubi and Zorro in check.

Mrs Nicol said: "It is simply an amazing contribution from Rhona who three years and four months ago started taking in used stuff, mostly for dogs but sometimes for cats too, from far and wide.

Pet project has a £10K target

"It is a significant sum of money when you consider that our vet bills alone came to £46,000 last year alone.

"She is always happy and cheerful, and she could sell ice to the Eskimos.

"We depend so much on people's goodwill and donations that to have Rhona helping out is a tremendous asset."

Rhona said: "All the stuff is donated over the years, and I suppose I have built up quite a network of contacts.

"Sadly pets do die or outgrow their wee coats, and people do like to think that the stuff is going to a good cause.

"We are always needing more donations so anyone out there who can help please get in touch on Bella's Bargains Facebook page or my email rhonahdalgarno@yahoo.co.uk

"Jimmy is a great help collecting stuff and sorting it out in our shed which has been given a colourful new look by mural specialist Marc Delaye of Fresh Paint in North Kessock."

She added: "I love helping where animals are concerned, especially dogs. Iona and her team do such good work I see it as a labour of love."
