A BLACK Isle animal shelter has welcomed another boost from one of its most loyal supporters at a time when its fundraising activities have been seriously curtailed by coronavirus.

Bella's Bargains, run by Rhona Dalgarno, sells pre-loved pet products to benefit Munlochy Animal Aid.

Earlier this week, Ms Dalgarno passed over £1500 raised to shelter operator Iona Nicol, bringing the total amount contributed since she started the venture to £36,200.

She said: "Went over to see Iona with £1500. She was delighted. Jimmy and I really can't thank you all enough for your support through these difficult times.

"We had a few busy days in July and it's so nice to be seeing people visit us again. And thank you for all the lovely donations. Onwards and upwards and here's to August being a good month too. Love from Bella and the mammy."

She was inspired to start Bella's Bargains by the “fantastic job” done at the shelter and an awareness of the steep running costs, including food and vets bills that they face.

Her Facebook page, which also seeks donations of unwanted items for sale, offers collars and leads, dog and cat beds and shelters and food bowls as well as toys. She runs regular raffles for items donated to the cause with everything raised going to support the shelter.

Welcoming the boost, Iona Nicol said: "Thank you once again to Rhona and team at Bella Bargains –£1500 this month. She really is amazing.Thank you to all the kind folk who donate the goodies and to the folk who buy them. With all our normal fundraising on hold this year it is great to get this wonderful support. Please keep helping Rhona to help us."

Munlochy Animal Aid provides shelter and care to abandoned, abused and neglected animals and, where possible, tries to find suitable, permanent homes for them. It operates solely on donations from the public.

The shelter has recently reopened on an appointment-only system. Anyone interetsed is asked to call 07740237728 and leave a message. Ms Nicol said: "Hopefully things will be back to normal soon. Thank you all for your support during these strange times."
